“I used Nokian tires on my Ford F-150 for several years now. In summer I used the Rotiiva and found them to be excellent for handling on rain-slicked pavement and gravel roads. In winter I have a dedicated set of winter tires on steel rims for our brutal cold, snowy winters in Manitoba, Canada. For winter I have been using the Hakkapeliitta. The Hakkapeliitta tires are the best winter tires I have ever had. I am on back country roads for the forestry work I do, and these tires provide that extra bit of confidence on forestry roads which are less than ideal (i.e. I would never take a 2-wheel drive vehicle on them even in summer). “I got the previous model (Wrangler AT/SA) on my Suzuki Jimny when I bought it second hand, and used the tires for two years, about 30 000 km total, in all weather seasons (from snowy icy winters in the mountains, up to scorching hot Mediterranean summers).

I used them in all seasons because Goodyear advertised them as “all-season” tires. And they were quite correct about that!

The tires performed flawlessly. I used them on all kinds of terrain – from slick highway tarmac and old crispy country road tarmac, up to dusty gravel, hard gravel, rocky roads, grass, mud of all colors, deep snow, you name it.

The tires performed exceptionally well except in serious mud, but even in the mud, they did their best considering they are not extreme mud tires.

They are very quiet (like a normal road tire) and they have no problems when balancing, like some other all-terrain tire models.

In October 2015, I replaced them with the new model Wrangler AT/SA+. The new tires came with a 10 mm thread depth!

I emailed Goodyear asking what is the difference between the old AT/SA and the new AT/SA+ model. Their response was “They are the same tires, but the new model has improved wet braking performance”.

After driving about 5000 km with the new AT/SA+ tires, I can attest to Goodyear’s claim.

“Previously, I’ve bought sets of both the Goodyear Wrangler HP (Land Rover’s original fitment) and Michelin Latitude Cross tires. I decided, however, that this time around I’d try a set of Maxxis AT771s as the Michelin’s proved to work well on the road, but far less well off the road, particularly on wet grass.

I generally expect Terrain tires to be a bit of a compromise, that said, the Maxxis 771 has impressed me. The grip off-road is far better than I’ve experienced before, and sure-footed progress up wet bank sides is no problem, likewise, the grip on descent provides every confidence that you’re not going to lose traction.

On the road, the 771 drives comfortably, they’re smooth and surprisingly quiet, with little discernible difference in road/cabin noise to previous tires despite the higher rating. The Maxxis 771 grips well in the dry and (if driven responsibly!) equally well in the wet, coping easily with moderate snow. After 11 months of use, the wear on these tires is minimal despite the car covering a good many road miles and with luck, they should last at least as well, if not somewhat better, than the Michelin Cross.
